Not another Mommy Blog...

I never set out to have a blog, for that matter I never really thought I would be a mom. I never, ever thought I would be a Mommy Blogger.

Prior to last week, I had a running joke with friends about how every wealthy, stay at home, suburban mom thinks she can be the next influencer, an insta-famous, mommy-blogger.Yet here I am typing with one hand, as I hold Monty with the other.

As for the bundle of joy in my left hand, Monty is what happens when--after prioritizing career, travel and un-tethered--you look at your partner of 12 years, your future together and wonder, what will really matter in the end?

My family, for better or for worse and as weird as they each are, really are some of my favorite people and have created my most cherished memories with me. My partner Carl and I have spent the last 12+ years together learning, growing, traveling, but the question kept coming up, were we missing out on something we would regret? After many discussions, having a family together, to start traditions with, and share love with, well it just seemed too important to miss. So, at 38, almost 39 years old, I gave birth to the most precious little memory making machine and another Bentson is here to explore the world!

In the process of incubating life, Carl and I decided to buy a home, which meant moving out of our beloved California to a more realistic real estate market, and about 1,800 miles from my previous job. I had worked in a very pretty place with some pretty cool people, but that commute was just not possible with a baby.

Now I face the very real connundrum that so many mothers face, should I go to work and miss this special time with my baby, only to end up spending most of my earnings to pay for child care, or is there a way I can stay home and earn some money?

I did the requisite google searches and decided that freelance writing seemed like a realistic way for me to put my writing degree to use, make a little extra money to help our family thrive and not miss a single coo.

So, while yes, this is a blog and I am a new mom, my primary aim is not to be the next influencer or sell you on my favorite brand of diaper cream. The website is here so that I can showcase my writing, have a forum to write often and re-energize my creative spirit. What happens along that journey, we will have to wait and see...
